Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine is an interdisciplinary subspecialty of medicine which deals with the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries arising from sports and physical activity. It involves non-operative treatment for musculoskeletal injuries which include injuries to the joint, muscle, tendon, bone or ligament. Sports Medicine includes providing treatment options that work towards improving and optimizing function and performance that include treatment modes, therapeutic exercise, movement analysis as well as regenerative medicine therapies.

The goal is to help the patient recover fully and return to their beloved sport or activity without the risk of re-injury.

When a person enters the doors of SIA with a sports or physical activity related injury, our rehabilitation team conducts an analysis to understand the nature of the injury and the level of therapy required. Assessment of damage to tendons and soft tissues is done without unnecessary exposure to radiation. Following this, a treatment plan is created to help restore the patient’s movement and provide interventions to reduce the risk of re-injury.

Our Sports Medicine Rehabilitation specialists at SIA consists of an interdisciplinary team of orthopedicians, physiotherapists, nutritionists and sports psychologists to develop a treatment plan tailored to the patient’s needs, abilities and goals.

Our services in the field of sports medicine include but are not limited to sports movement analysis, strength and stability training, exercise training, intervention for obesity and inactivity and regenerative medicine. Our in-house team of sports medicine professionals include orthopedicians, physiotherapists, massage therapists, occupational therapists as well as speech therapists.

Nutrition services for our Long Term Acute Care patients.

At SIA, we recognize that proper nutritional care can differ from patient to patient depending on the phase of each person’s critical illness. The proportion of carbohydrates proteins and fats are adjusted based on the patient’s medical condition so as to ensure that their recovery process is hastened. That’s why we have our dieticians and kitchen staff working together to ensure that our Long Term ICU patients’ needs are met. We provide nutritional counselling for patients and their family members for specialized diets such as diabetic, renal, low-sodium/cardiac malnutrition etc. We also take care of the management of nasogastric tubes, PEG tubes and IV nutrition.
